How to Reconcile Stripe Payouts to Your Bank

To reconcile Stripe payouts, download the payout reconciliation report, group its rows by payout, sum the net amount of each, and match each total to a deposit on your bank statement by arrival date. Any payout that does not match is explained by refunds, disputes, currency conversion or a failed payout — all visible in the same report.

Upload your Stripe payout reconciliation report and see every transaction grouped by payout with fees already reconciled, so you can match bank deposits in minutes instead of hours.

1. Download the payout reconciliation report

In the Stripe Dashboard open Reports → Payout reconciliation, set the period to the bank statement you are reconciling, and download the itemized report. Each row is one balance transaction with the payout it was paid in, its gross, fee and net amounts, and its category.

2. Total each payout

Group the rows by payout ID and sum net. That total is what Stripe sent to your bank for that payout. Keep the arrival date alongside: it is the date the money reached the bank, which is the date on your statement, not the date of the charges.

3. Match to the bank statement

Match each payout total and arrival date to a deposit on the bank statement. Exact matches are reconciled. For the rest, look inside the payout at refunds, disputes and fees: a refund issued after the charge reduces a later payout, not the original one.

4. Post fees and refunds to the books

Book the gross sales, the Stripe fees and the refunds separately from the report's categories, so revenue is recorded gross and fees as an expense. The deposit then equals sales minus fees minus refunds for the payout, and the books agree with the bank.

Common questions

How do I reconcile Stripe payouts?

Download the payout reconciliation report, sum net by payout ID, and match each total to a bank deposit by arrival date. Differences come from refunds, disputes, currency conversion or failed payouts, all listed in the report.

How do Stripe payouts work?

Stripe collects payments into your Stripe balance, holds each for a short rolling period, then pays the available balance out to your bank on your payout schedule, net of fees and refunds.

Why do I see the same transaction_id multiple times in one payout?

Stripe creates separate rows for the gross charge amount, the processing fee, and any additional fees like currency conversion or disputes. Each row shares the same transaction_id but has a different transaction_type. Sum the net column for that transaction_id to get the actual amount added to the payout.

How do I match a payout to my bank statement?

Filter rows to one payout_id where payout_status is paid, then sum the net column. Compare that total to the deposit on your bank statement using the payout_arrival_date. If they differ, check for currency conversion or failed payouts that moved to a later payout.

Where do refunds appear in the payout reconciliation report?

Refunds appear as separate rows with transaction_type set to refund and a negative gross_amount. They reduce the payout total and appear in the payout that was scheduled after the refund was issued, not in the payout that contained the original charge.

What does automatic_payout_id mean when it differs from payout_id?

The automatic_payout_id is the payout Stripe originally scheduled for that transaction. If a payout failed or you changed payout settings, the transaction moves to a different payout, and payout_id shows where it actually paid out. Use payout_id to match your bank, not automatic_payout_id.

How do I calculate total Stripe fees from this report?

Filter rows where transaction_type contains fee or where the fee column is not zero. Sum the fee column for your date range. This includes processing fees, dispute fees, and any other charges Stripe deducted from your payouts.
