Common questions
How is the minimum hourly rate calculated?
Your desired income and yearly business expenses are added together to get the revenue you need. That total is divided by your billable hours per year, which is (52 minus weeks off) times your billable hours per week.
Should I enter all the hours I work or only billable hours?
Enter only the hours you can actually charge to clients. Time spent on admin, marketing, invoicing and finding work isn't billable, so counting it would make your rate too low.
Does the desired income include taxes?
The calculator doesn't add taxes for you. If you want a take-home figure, raise your desired income to cover income and self-employment taxes, or include an estimated tax amount in your yearly business expenses.
Does it cost anything, and do I need to upload a file?
No. This is a calculator, so it's free to use. There's no file to upload. You just type in four numbers and the results appear.
